Bald head care in summer – what I really think is important in the sun

With a bald head, one thing changes quite noticeably in summer:

The scalp gets direct sun.

No hair in between.
No shade.
No major buffer zone.

And that is exactly why I think bald head care should look a little different in summer than in winter.

Not more complicated.

But more mindful.

Sun protection is the most important point for me

With a shaved bald head, there is one thing in summer that you really don't need to argue about for long:

UV protection is part of it.

Especially because the scalp can be permanently uncovered, it gets more sun quickly than other areas.

And you sometimes notice that sooner than you'd like.

That is why I wouldn't apply sun protection only when you spend a whole day at the beach.

Everyday life counts too.

Walk.
Garden.
Patio.
Car ride.
Lunch break.

If the sun hits the scalp for a long time, it should have protection on it.

What I find important with sun protection for the bald head

Personally, I don't want anything on the bald head that feels heavy, sticky, or greasy.

That is simply unpleasant in the heat.

That is why I find products interesting that combine protection and care and absorb as quickly as possible.

The Better Be Bold UV protection with SPF 50 is designed exactly for this purpose. According to the manufacturer, it is lightly formulated, non-greasy, waterproof, and can be used for the bald head and face. (BETTER BE BOLD®)

That is clearly more suitable for everyday life for me than any thick sunscreen that makes the bald head look like it has just been freshly polished.

Right after shaving, less is often more

In summer, several things come together:

Shaving.
Sweat.
Sun.
Heat.

That is why I wouldn't unnecessarily overload the skin with too many products after shaving the head.

Clean shave.

Soothe the skin.

Moisturize.

And if the sun is out: follow up with suitable UV protection.

Often, that is all you need.

Moisture still remains important

Sun, wind, air conditioning, and frequent showering can make the skin look dry.

Especially with a freshly shaved bald head, you notice a feeling of tightness quite quickly.

Here I find a light care routine makes sense.

The Better Be Bold bald head cream uses shea butter and jojoba oil, among other things, and is expressly intended as care after shaving the head. (BETTER BE BOLD®)

For me, it is not crucial to get as many products on the skin as possible.

Rather:

The skin should feel calm and cared for.

And yes: A cap is sometimes the easiest solution

Not every solution has to come out of a tube.

If I am outside for a long time or the sun is very strong, a cap or other head covering is simply additionally sensible.

Especially around noon, less direct sun on the scalp is often the more pleasant solution.

Sun protection does not automatically replace every other protective measure for me.

Both can complement each other.

What I would avoid in summer

A freshly shaved, already irritated scalp and then directly into the sun for a long time?

I would personally avoid that.

If the skin already looks sensitive after shaving, it does not need additional unnecessary stress.

That is why I prefer to plan shaving and longer sun exposure a bit apart, if it can be avoided.

My simple summer routine

I would keep it really simple:

1. Keep the scalp clean

Wash off sweat and residue.

2. Shave gently

Sharp blade, proper preparation, little pressure.

3. Light care

Something that suits your own skin.

4. UV protection

Especially when the bald head is exposed to direct sun for a long time.

5. Cover additionally in strong sun

Cap, hat, or simply go into the shade more often.

That is completely sufficient for most.

My conclusion

Bald head care in summer does not have to become a project of its own.

But one thing clearly changes:

The scalp needs more attention when it comes to the sun.

For me, a sensible summer routine therefore consists of three things:

clean shaving, light care, and consistent UV protection.

Everything else is a bonus.

And if the sun protection then also absorbs quickly and does not make the bald head shine like a greased pig, all the better.
